Lessons in Saxophone Performance
I enjoy inspiring students by providing a personalized approach to learning and playing the saxophone. My goal is to share the joy of performing, no matter what level the student is at.
I have been providing saxophone lessons for many years now, and I am comfortable teaching students of all ages and levels. I also teach clarinet and recorder lessons to beginning and intermediate students.
About the Lessons
When starting out teaching the saxophone I soon realized the importance of adapting lesson programs to meet the skills, talents, and specific interests of the student. I encourage independent learning, and my lessons are designed to stimulate the student's self-confidence.
Performance Opportunities & Exams
Student concerts are held twice a year (January and June), and all students are invited to perform. Students are also encouraged to take exams through the Royal Conservatory of Music and to participate in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival.
Where?
Studio lessons: I am currently teaching privately in Fairfield (903 Collinson Street) where I share a music studio with my wife, piano teacher Jacqueline Perriam. Our studio is close to James Bay and Downtown Victoria.
There is also the option to sign up for lessons through the Victoria Conservatory of Music. See the map below for these two locations.
New! In-home: I also provide in-home lessons. In-home lessons are lessons in your own home, a perfect solution for busy or less mobile families. These lessons are either 45 or 60 minutes long. To cover travel expenses a small extra monthly fee (of $30) is added on top of the regular monthly rate (see below).
In-home lessons are offered in Victoria, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich, Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney, Highlands and View Royal. For other areas, such as Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Malahat, and Shawnigan Lake, please inquire.

When?
- I teach private music students, at my studio, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Start weekly lessons anytime throughout the year.
- In-home lessons are available on Thursday afternoons and evenings. Start weekly lessons anytime throughout the year.
What?
- Bring any music you like (really!) as I teach a wide variety of musical styles.
How Much?
Private lessons are taught at the following monthly rates. Please note that the rate differrence between Mondays and other days are due to statutory holidays.

Special 10-Lesson Package for Beginning Band Students (saxophone or clarinet only)
This package is an excellent way to get started on your instrument. Each lesson is 20 minutes long, and the costs for the complete 10-lesson package is $150. Start anytime throughout the year, on either clarinet or saxophone. Contact me for details.
